Distribution Warehouse Mezzanine Floor and Three Staircases

A new mezzanine floor and staircases for a brand new distribution warehouse. The project involved several teams of contractors working on-site simultaneously.

The Project

The project scope covered the design, manufacture and installation (including painting the floor) of a 22,500 metres-square, 10m high mezzanine floor, three staircases and mesh handrail, for a distribution warehouse.

Our Client

The Main Contractor engaged USS for this project to design, manufacture and install an industrial mezzanine floor into a new warehouse distribution facility for John Lewis & Partners.

The Challenge

The objective for this particular project was to provide and install a mezzanine floor for a retail distribution warehouse. It was essential for this project to be delivered issue-free and on time.

USS received an enquiry from the Main Contractor and subsequently received drawings and a specification from which to produce a quote. As the building was brand new, no survey was required. On being awarded the work, USS provided detailed fabrication drawings and then proceeded to manufacture and install the floor. This project was managed on-site and from the USS office.

The newness of the building was a distinct advantage; however, we had to meet the challenge of the sheer scale of the proposed new mezzanine, which was the size of three football pitches! The finished floor was painted with two coats of grey floor paint. And for the quantity surveyors among us, this amounted to approximately 6,500 litres!

Distribution warehouse

This construction was a turnkey project from design fabrication drawings to close-out; including all materials, machinery and equipment. To this end, daily deliveries by lorry were precision-coordinated to facilitate the smooth running of the operation and eliminate the potential for problems further down the line to other contractors involved.

And Finally

This was a superbly coordinated project, completed two weeks ahead of schedule.

We Are Happy to Say

We were pleased to be involved in such a well-organised installation given the size of the task. Completing the work in such a timely manner demonstrated the excellent teamwork and organisational skills everyone brought to the project.
